THE FRAUD MATRIX

Elder Financial Exploitation

Fraud targeting older adults: scam calls, new 'helpers' who gain access to finances, and rapid changes in accounts or documents. Most of these schemes are run by people the victim trusts — or who talk their way into trust.

  1. Contact

A scam call, message, or 'helper' makes first contact with the older person.

  2. Trust

Sympathy, authority, or a fabricated emergency builds a reason to act now.

  3. Access

The fraudster gains access to accounts, cards, or signing authority.

  4. Transfer

Funds move out or documents are signed before anyone else notices.

  5. Lost & found

Caregivers or banks flag the changes and reporting can begin.
